Large Arc Magnets

Large arc magnets are oversized curved NdFeB or samarium cobalt components used in utility generators, heavy motors, magnetic separation drums, and industrial assemblies.
Their main sourcing risks are not grade alone; they include arc concentricity, crack control, magnetization uniformity, coating coverage on long edges, and safe transport.

Purchasing Oversized Curved Magnets: What Changes as the Part Gets Bigger

As the arc span grows, the production window narrows. Powder filling must be uniform across a longer cavity, otherwise density shifts and magnetic output becomes uneven. During sintering, thick sections cool at different rates than thin sections, so internal stress can lead to hairline cracks. Grinding a large curved surface also takes more fixtures. If the magnet is segmented, matching pieces must stay within a tight flux band. These are the details that decide whether a shipment performs like the sample.

Our plant has spent 30 years in magnetic materials and runs the complete process in house, from alloying and powder preparation to pressing, sintering, machining, plating, and final testing. That vertical control is useful for large arc magnets because the factory can adjust earlier steps when a later inspection shows a problem, instead of passing the issue between outside vendors.

Specify the Magnetic Circuit Before the Alloy

A common mistake is to choose the strongest grade first. For a big curved part, the circuit may not need the highest remanence. Temperature, reverse field, air gap, and assembly method often matter more. Sintered NdFeB is available from N30 to N55, with M, H, SH, UH, EH, and AH classes. Where heat reaches 350°C, samarium cobalt is a practical route. Alnico can serve applications up to 600°C in certain designs. Ferrite and rubber versions may fit cost-sensitive or flexible layouts. Heavy rare earth addition uses dysprosium-iron, not cheap holmium-iron, to improve thermal stability and lot-to-lot consistency. Input material is purchased from listed producers and checked for purity at 95% or higher; recycled feedstock is excluded.

Drawing Data That Prevents Rework

Send a controlled drawing with outer radius, inner radius, thickness, arc angle, chord length, and tolerance. Add the magnetization pattern: radial, axial, or multipole. State whether the part will be bonded, clamped, overmolded, or inserted into a sleeve. If the arc is very long or thin, note any support points. Our machining capability can hold 0.01mm on suitable features and covers 0.2mm to 150mm, including odd profiles. For dimensions outside that range, the engineering team reviews feasibility before quoting. A small radius or thickness change can sometimes raise yield without reducing flux.

Surface Protection Across a Long Curved Face

Long edges and end faces are where coating defects often appear. We use a nickel-copper-nickel electroplated system; the single nickel layer can reach 5μm, with even color and solid adhesion. Zinc, epoxy, gold, and silver are also offered. The plating line is automatic and follows environmental rules. Coatings can be submitted for SGS 300+ item testing and meet REACH, RoHS, CP65, and EN71. This documentation helps clear customs in Europe, North America, Japan, and Korea. The factory is IATF16949 and ISO9001 certified, which supports automotive and industrial programs.

Inspection Evidence Buyers Should Ask For

For large arc magnets, a single dimensional check is not enough. Ask for composition verification, key dimensions, flux or magnetic moment, and salt spray results. We also use X-ray thickness measurement, high-temperature chambers, and HAST aging equipment. Records are tied to the production lot and can be shown during audits. Batch flux variation is kept narrow, and demagnetization behavior is better than the usual market level. PPAP, material certificates, or extra reports can be discussed before the order.

Packing, Samples, and Lead Time

Because a large arc is heavy and brittle, packing must stop movement in all directions. We use foam-lined compartment trays inside reinforced export cartons. Free small samples are available for evaluation. Trial runs and quick prototypes are supported. Delivery schedules are stable, and several payment methods are accepted. Free technical help covers magnetic circuit review, material choice, and application questions. After-sales replies are prompt.

To source large arc magnets, send the drawing, grade, coating, magnetization direction, working temperature, and estimated order quantity. Include the assembly method and any target flux. The engineering team will review the project and return a workable quotation.
